Invaluable Experience and Future Direction

As a Summer Research Assistant at APPRISE, I have had the opportunity to engage in meaningful projects that have deepened my desire to help others and solidified my career path. As a kid, I dreamt of becoming a neurosurgeon because of the countless lives I could save and help. However, once I learned about the steady hand’s requirement and extensive medical school journey, I immediately shifted my focus to other passions. From being fascinated with crime and aspiring to be a forensic scientist to now pursuing my passion for criminal law, my unwavering desire to help people has always been a driving force within me.

During my time at APPRISE, I have contributed to two significant projects: the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) Industrial Facility Study and the NYSERDA Statewide Multifamily Baseline Study. Through the NYSERDA Industrial Facility Study, I had the privilege of interacting with manufacturing and industrial companies and gaining an understanding of their immense energy costs. These conversations provided me with valuable insights into the challenges faced by businesses and the pressing need for better energy policies.

Similarly, the Statewide Multifamily Baseline Study engaged property managers of multifamily properties across New York state. Through these conversations, I delved into their energy efficiency practices and energy uses within their properties. The data and information collected from both projects will be instrumental in shaping more effective energy policies.

My time at APPRISE has shown me the value of contributing to real-world projects that directly benefit people and communities and reaffirmed my decision to attend law school. Because I want to continue work that will positively impact people’s lives, I envision myself helping diverse individuals and families in their pursuit of justice. My summer experience has shaped my perspective, further igniting my passion for making a positive impact through legal advocacy. I am immensely grateful for the invaluable experience gained at APPRISE, which has helped instill in me a sense of purpose and direction for my future.
